Cast iron:
Raw material cost: The main raw material of cast iron is pig iron, which is relatively inexpensive and widely available, giving it an advantage in raw material procurement cost.
Manufacturing and processing cost: The casting process is relatively simple and does not impose particularly strict requirements on casting equipment and technology. Moreover, subsequent processing costs are relatively low because of its good machinability, so the overall manufacturing cost is relatively low. This is also one of the reasons it is widely used in situations where performance requirements are not extremely high.
Cast steel:
Raw material cost: Cast steel requires higher-quality steel as raw material, and some also requires the addition of alloying elements, which are themselves relatively expensive, making the raw material cost of cast steel generally much higher than that of cast iron.
Manufacturing and processing cost: Because the casting process of cast steel is complex and imposes strict requirements on molds, melting equipment and pouring processes, and because its higher hardness makes subsequent processing more difficult, its overall manufacturing and processing cost is higher. However, combined with its high-performance characteristics, its cost-effectiveness is still reasonable in suitable application scenarios.


In short, whether to choose cast iron or cast steel for a grate should comprehensively consider the boiler’s scale, working conditions, cost and other factors, so as to ensure that the grate achieves the best service effect and economic benefit in a specific application.
