Biomass Boiler Safety Technology Symposium Held in Nanjing
From May 8 to 11, 2024, the Biomass Boiler Safety Technology Symposium was successfully held in Nanjing. It was hosted by the China Boiler and Boiler Water Treatment Association (hereinafter referred to as the “China Boiler Association”), co-organized by the Biomass Energy Professional Committee of the Jiangsu Renewable Energy Society, and organized by Nanjing Ruikong Automation Co., Ltd. and Dalian Sunshine Boiler Auxiliary Equipment Co., Ltd.
Guo Yuanliang, Chief Advisor of the China Boiler Association; Wang Jiaoling, Secretary-General of the China Boiler Association; Liu Xinzhi, Director of the Biomass Energy Professional Committee of the Jiangsu Renewable Energy Society; Qiu Yanfei, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute; and Liang Guo’an, former Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Special Equipment Safety Supervision and Inspection Research Institute, attended the meeting. Representatives from enterprises involved in boiler manufacturing, burner manufacturing, burner testing, and igniter manufacturing participated in the meeting. Members of the biomass energy team of the School of Energy and Power Engineering of Nanjing University of Science and Technology, representatives of Nanjing Ruikong Automation Co., Ltd. (a manufacturer of automatic control equipment for biomass combustion devices), and Dalian Sunshine Boiler Auxiliary Equipment Co., Ltd. (a biomass grate manufacturer) attended the meeting as observers.
During the symposium, participants discussed and exchanged views on the technical requirements for active venting devices for biomass boilers, hazard combustion condition early-warning devices, powder channels, and heating surfaces, and held lively discussions on the draft of the “Active Venting Device” technical standard.
During the meeting, participants visited a biomass charcoal-heat cogeneration boiler room under the State Power Investment Corporation, conducted on-site investigations into the practical application of active venting devices, and examined biomass charcoal-heat cogeneration combustion devices and the current state of industrial applications of biomass charcoal.
During the meeting, participants also visited the Zhishan base of Nanjing Agricultural University, studied in detail the current state of biomass charcoal application in agriculture, and discussed technical issues related to biomass boilers burning grass-type straw fuels.
After the field visits and inspections, participants gained a deeper understanding that, due to the specific characteristics of biomass fuels, the safety issues of biomass boilers are fundamentally different from those of coal-fired, oil-fired, and gas-fired boilers. Currently, driven by the green and low-carbon transformation of the energy industry, the application of biomass boilers is developing rapidly, and the safety issues of biomass boilers urgently need to be addressed.
